Extradition of Eduardo Arellano-Felix : a remarkable achievement for DEA
Members of the Tijuana drug cartels are one of the most wanted drug cartels in Mexico, a man Eduardo Arellano-Felix, 55, alleged to be a senior member of this drug cartel extradited from Mexico to the United States stood for trail. Charges against him were of narcotics trafficking, racketeering and money laundering; he was arrested after a gun battle with the Mexican forces. Extradition of Eduardo Arellano was considered as the landmark end to the drug enforcement agency’s (DEA) 20 years old investigation on this drug cartel. According to the justice department the drug cartel had brought the cocaine in from Columbia through the air and sea to Mexico and later smuggled it into United States and sold it, the justice department said that the cartel had made hundreds of million dollars as profit. Arellano-Felix’s organization was mainly into the smuggling of cocaine, marijuana and other drugs through the Tijuana and Mexicali into the United States. The two brothers of the Eduardo Arellano-Felix i.e. Benjamin Arellano-Felix and Francisco Javier Arellano-Felix were already serving time in the United States when Eduardo was being put for trials. As they were also convicted for the same crime as that of Eduardo, on drug trafficking, money laundering and racketeering charges.
